“We zijn daar vijf dagen gebleven”, legt Anuna De Wever uit op haar Instagram. “We hebben verschillende mensen ontmoet, waaronder wetenschappers en lokale bewoners.”

“We bouwen samen een alliantie om het bos te beschermen. De Amazone is de long van onze planeet. Als de Amazone sterft, dan sterft de hele wereld. We moeten dus vechten om zijn bomen en rivieren in leven te houden.”

“Niet alleen onze planeet, maar ook de lokale bevolking is in gevaar. Ik kreeg verhalen te horen van mensen die hun huis kwijt zijn, andere zijn ziek geworden van de giftige gassen van de mijnbouw. Het bracht mij aan het wenen.”

“Het is van levensgroot belang dat de hele wereld druk uitoefent op de Braziliaanse regering. Ze moeten de Amazonewoud en de mensen die er wonen beschermen. Het wordt dringend tijd om te handelen.”

We've just spent 5 days in the Amazone forest. There we met scientists, local inhabitants, youth strikers of the forest... and we build an alliance to protect the forest together. The Amazon is the lung of this planet earth. If the Amazon dies, the world dies. So the whole world needs to fight for it's trees and rivers that keep us all alive. But not only the forest is in danger, also the people that live there. I cried, being told stories of them losing their homes, getting sick because of the toxic gasses released by mining and because of the draughts they have problems harvesting their food. It is nescesarry that the whole world puts pressure on the Brazilian governement to safe the amazon forest, and the people that live there.
